If you can’t find what you’re looking for on Abbotsford Today, tell us about it. We’ll find it for you. Providing you with ‘The Other Side Of The News’ has been one of the reasons so many people visit our site every day. Finding what you’re looking for is also what we’re all about.

Providing a place where residents can speak openly about issues in Abbotsford has been the whole point of what we’ve been doing for nearly two years. But there is much more to Abbotsford Today than freedom of speech.

Not only do we provide you with news faster than the newspaper sites, depth and perspective they can’t, or won’t, we also provide you with access to every organization and group in the community with the click of your mouse.

If you take the time to explore the site you will find that every organization with which you would want to get in touch in Abbotsford with can be found on Abbotsford Today. Arts organizations, business organizations, sports teams, churches, bars, pubs and restaurants … they’re all here. And if you know how to navigate the site you’ll find them.

Abbotsford Today is an experiment in what the web can provide at the local level. Our Business Directory has over 900 local businesses listed and our new Job Board offers local jobs. The Jobs and Training Section offers links to over 75 job boards focusing on the Lower Mainland and BC. You can get in touch with all of the arts organizations in Abbotsford through our Arts Organizations Section.

We’re hoping to provide you with access to everything you need in Abbotsford at your fingertips. If you can’t find it hear, tell us and we’ll find it for you.

Once you get know how to navigate our Section Bar at the top of the page, you can explore the various sections depending on your preferences. Business, Arts, Music, Sports, Leisure, Travel, Health … each section is filled with stories, features, directories and links to take you further into the community.

Website Guide

If you want a different look at how to get around the site click on the Website Guide link in the Section Bar at the top of the page and a complete listing of all sections and subsections will appear. Each item in the list is linked to that specific section or subsection of the site.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for using the Sections Bar, or you don’t know in what section the information you seek may be categorized, simply use the Search box at the top right of the page.

Type in the keyword(s) that describe your search such as ‘museum’ and the search results will provide you every story/post on Abbotsford Today tagged with the word ‘museum’ listed by date (most current to earliest.)

Everything that has ever been published on Abbotsord Today is archived by section and by month so if you’re looking for a story from September 2009, click on the Archive Button at the very top of the page and scroll down to the month you want and click it. All of the ATstories/posts for that month will appear in reverse chronological order. You can also use the archive to search by section, eg. Issues, Politics, Columns, Lifestyles…

Abby Links

The Abby Links Section in the Sections Bar provides you with an alphabetical list of all of the directories available on Abbotsford Today. Find the directory you want, e.g. Pubs, Bars and Nightlife, Movie Listings or Pet Services Directory and click on the link to display the directory.

In every directory, where a desired website is available it is linked. Simply click on the highlighted links to go to that website. Use the back button in your browser to return to Abbotsford Today.

Business Directory

Our Business Directory is growing all the time as more and more businesses list with us. To find Abbotsford businesses using the Business Directory you can find the directory from the home page in one of two easy ways:

On the home page below the Top Story photo simply click on the Business Directory link. Alternatively, go to the Business Section in the section bar at the top of the page, let your cursor hover and all of the subsections of the Business Section will display. Choose Business Directory and you will be taken to the business directory.

Jobs and Training

The Jobs and Training Section, available through the Section bar at the top of the page, is a new section we’ve added and tried to make as interactive and useful as possible for those contemplating or actively seeking new employment or considering a career change.

It was designed to make searching for schools, training programs, universities and job listings as easy as possible without having to leave the site or use search engines to find the job boards or schools you need.

We’ve also added a Job Board filled with local jobs you can apply for online.

The Net
We’ve added a new subsection to our The Net Section called ‘Surfing … A Great Site Is Hard To Find’. It has been designed to give you some quick links, not only to some of the neatest and most visited international and media sites on the net but to some of the local websites we visit all the time as well.

If you are new to Abbotsford, thinking of investing in Abbotsford or just need to get to know more about the city you will find everything from demograohics to history, transportation to the major lifestyles and cultural events and venues in the city.

Simply let your cursor hover over the About Abbotsford Section heading in the Sections bar at the top of the page, or click on it, and nine categories of information wil pop up. Choose the subsection you want, click it and you will enter one of the areas designed to provide you with information on Abbotsford.

* Unique visitors are the number of IP addresses that have visited a website at least once during a given month. That means that if everybody at the City of Abbotsford visits Abbotsford Today once a day every month, it is still only recorded as one unique visitor from one unique IP address. That’s seven percent of the population of Abbotsford that checks us out at least once a month (and we think the folks at town hall check us out more than that).

About Editor

Mike spent 20 years in the newspaper business as a journalist, editor, sales manager and publisher before moving into public relations and business consulting. In 2008 he became founding editor of the Abbotsford Post and he is co-owner of Today Media Group. Mike graduated from the University of Alberta in 1970 with a BA in Political Science and Economics and has since pursued graduate studies in both Federalism and Journalism. He has a Diploma in Web Design from Academy of Learning.
