Guest Columns: Being Truly Blessed Because Of Deep Connections
By Tracy Dueck. When we think of times gone by, our minds conjure up all kinds of images: little girls having tea parties, baked goods fresh from the oven, playing softball, being silly, and running freely through the grass on a warm spring day. We think of times shared around the table, and of those we spent that time with.
Recently I spent some time with one of my dear friends. I met Jacky over 30 years ago, although it seems like yesterday. During our visit, she and I went “thrifting” together (you know, when you buy stuff that someone else threw out.) I like the analogy of thrifting; other peoples’ trash is my treasure! (My husband says he needs to place a worldwide restraining order on me for my thrift store habit, but that’s another story!)
Jacky and I cooked together, made even more memories together, celebrated her first home, and enjoyed laughing until the wee hours of the morning. Just spending time with Jacky made the day – and the following week so much better!
She and I talked about the past, but we also live in the moment. We know that all too suddenly, life can – and does – change for a lot of us.
Who will be there for you when that happens? I know I have people – like my friend Jacky – and you may have names that come to mind to fill in that space. If so, you are truly blessed, and your life is enriched because of those deep connections.
