The Globe & Mail is reporting that a federal review has been launched into drug cases in Abbotsford as a result of the allegations of corruption against the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) revealed earlier this week.

Questions are now being asked about the methods used by the APD in ridding itself of the ‘Murder Capital of Canada’ moniker it held for a few years due to its role as a center for drug gangs, sales and transportation.

The allegations against 17 APD officers involve false information provided in order to gain warrants.

A review has been launched into federal prosecutions that may be affected by the investigation into corruption and misconduct at the Abbotsford Police Department.

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada — which prosecutes drug cases in B.C. — confirmed to CBC News that a file review into cases covered by the investigation has been initiated, and that the PPSC has begun taking steps to address them.

Spokesperson for the PPSC, Sujata Raisinghani, said that no further information about specific cases or the time frame involved was available at this time.
