My complaint, when I wrote Mayor Peary, City Manager Frank Pizzuto and Jim Gordon, head of Engineering was this: What were your building inspectors and city planning department thinking to allow this road on a hydro right of way in the first place?

I never received an answer. The only reply was that the contractor/developer and BC Hydro should have worked this issue out before the construction began …

Why are we paying these guys significant money for these continued messes which, seemingly, are very preventable?

The original storyand photos were published Monday September 6, 2011 – Whatâ€™s Up With That? Doh! City Inspectors Missed Something

Close to two years of development and countless visits from City Inspectors etc the local new sub divisionâ€™ is almost ready for the builders, that is when the 11 lots are sold (starting at $274,500.00 and located adjacent to a power grid that ainâ€™t likely on the books for some time).

Itâ€™s a pity the developer and the power company didnâ€™t have a meeting when all this was going on, for right in the middle of laying the road bed along comes Mr Power and Light and erects a new a new pole, dab smack in the middle of the road. No end of howling from the developer had any effect and there the pole sits. Only possible solution I can see is to paint it with camouflage paint or hammer it into the ground .

What’s Up With That? Doh! City Inspectors Missed Something

I am sending it on to the Mayor Peary, Mr. Pizzuto, Mr. Gordon and a few councillors as a complaint about our ill run Engineering Department. Even though BC Hydro and the subdivison developer does have some responsiblity in this ridiculous occurence; our Abbotsford city staff is ultimately responsible to prevent these types of boondogles from happening.

It is these little issues that irk the taxpayer as a needless expeniture is going to happen to fix the issue and again we will pay for it.

The Oops File: Crown Hit Prostitute With Wrench?

Either the Crown Attorney in Chilliwack has to learn to calm down and stop hitting prostitutes with wrenches or editors have to start learning how to write headlines with subheads. Either way, something ain’t right with this headline.

It’s unlikely our friends over at the Chilliwack Times intended their front page to look like either they or person in the photo was Flipping The Bird to the whole community but that’s certainly what it looked like to a lot of folks who saw the paper this week.

The Oops File: Close Call Indeed!

The last thing we want to do is make fun of Canada’s Military or the brave men and women who risk their lives for us. Newspaper editors however are fair game.

It’s been long enough since Remembrance Day we feel entitled to poke some fun at our friends over at the Abbotsford Times for this incredible headline and photo on their Remembrance Day Issue November 9, 2010:

Close Call Indeed!

In Fairness:
The story can be said to have fit the photo since the subject was indeed in the photo. A more ridiculous headline over the photo on the home page, however, is hard to imagine.

Dave Scrivens is destined for a long life in the Canadian military.

As a member of the Royal Westminster Regiment stationed in Aldergrove, Scrivens, 31, has already seen his fair share of battle, having served for seven months in Afghanistan in 2008, and despite a very close call, lived to tell about it.

A large dent in his helmet tells the story of his near-death experience when his platoon was ambushed by the Taliban on Sept. 3, 2008 in Zhari Panjwaii province. That was just nine days before his tour in the war-torn country was set to end.

With apologies to Master Cpl. Dave Scrivens, his family and anyone in the Canadian Military who does not appreciate our sense of humour. A heartfelt Thank You for the risks you are taking on our behalf.

Now we know why Canwest was having such a hard time peddling ‘Local News’. Seems Postmedia is using the same riveting style of attention grabbing headlines to lure readers in on their websites.

No one could make this stuff up. This is the actual headline from the Abbotsford Times, posted today on their website. It may actually be the editor’s subtle yet cunning way of making you read the story despite his seeming attempts to have you look away …
