Abnor: Six Degrees Of {connections}

By on July 28, 2010

UPDATED 07/28/10 – COMMENTS RECEIVED – Who’s pulling the strings in Abbotsford? Abnor was walking down Clearbrook Rd on his way to the airport (no, you still can’t take a bus to or from our international transportation hub) and noticed signage promoting the new East Airport Development Park. Voth Bros. Developments, Development Manager was on the sign.

Now Abnor doesn’t read newspapers anymore because they don’t tell him anything he needs to know. And, when they do it’s usually the opposite of the truth. So he asked around (Abnor knows people) and came up with a curious set of connections. Tell Abnor if he’s wrong in the connections he’s made.

Connections:
Voth Bros. Developments = Ken Voth Director, Envision Credit Union – {connection} – Shawn Neumann, Director, Envision Credit Union – {connection} – Domain7 and Abbotsford Heat sponsor – {connection} – Dianne Delves, Quantum Properties (Mahogany Tower) – {connection} – Gord Huston, President, Envision, 2009 – {connection} – Vancouver Canuck’s Place, President Ken Voth, Envision Director, Director, New Campus of Care, Abbotsford, – {connection}Rick Rake, (former editor, Abbotsford News, Director/P/R/ new Campus of Care – {connection} – George Peary and Council, who bequeathed Ken Voth the land beside the hospital upon his request for the new Campus Of Care which will be leased for 99 years for $10 – {connection} – Councillors John Smith, 2008/2009 Abbotsford Hospice Director – {connection} – Deborah Lehman, Director, Abbotsford Hospice and board member of Abbotsford Police Board – {connection} – Wolfgang Lehmann, Sheffield Tobacco (Group of Companies, who went with Chamber Executice, Alvin Epp and Councillor Patricia Ross on the jaunt to Beijing, China in 2008.

Abnor also discovered that Envision donated $185,000to George Peary’s “Campaign of Care” for A.R.H. and $20,000 from the sale of each piece of land from East Airport Development Park will go to the Abbotsford Community Foundation {connection} Ken, Voth, Director and Voth Bros. Dev., a sponsor of Community Foundation – {connection} – George Peary, “Special friend, Community Foundation.”

The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce “Under the Storm” 2009 Budget presentation gave priority to develop the airport lands.

Abnor’s head is spinning from the apparent connections. Can you make sense of it?

If you have any ideas for Abnor tell him.

Editor’s Note: Abnor joins us from time to time with a question or two about what he sees around him. He has plenty of time on his hands and he spends a great deal of his time wandering the streets of Abbotsford wondering about what he sees and hears. He’s a modern day hobo with a Blackberry.

    Well, it appears that a few developers are deciding the direction of the city and Mayor and Council are their facilitators.

    While the Who’s Who of Abbotsford are getting all their ducks in a row, the average taxpayer has no clue that they are just along for the ride and if the Who’s Who’s ‘dream plans’ (i.e. Plan A) do not turn out, well, quess what, it’ll be the taxpayer, who picks up the tab.

    Of course all those minions were voted back in. Why would the Who’s Who of Abbotsford want someone in there, who knew what they were doing and prevented them from lining up their ducks.

    The Who’s Who have been getting D.C.C. rates at 2006 levels and the taxpayer needs to pay double water rates, due to the lack of infrastructure funds for a new water source/sewer treatment plant.

    Now, they’re raising D.C.C.s, but allowing a property tax exemption (1 year) for building permit values over $ 1 million.
