Response from Lynn Perrin
Thank you afor adding the link. However, your comment is less than factual. Here are the facts:
Usually I share information I have obtained with the editors of Abbotsford Today, Abbotsford News, Abbotsford Times, Kent Spencer, The Province and Daphne Bramham, Vancouver Sun. Some of the information is the result of weeks of research that takes 20 to 30 hours per week. In this case after researching the time and place of the AMWSC meeting and attending it on the morning of Thurs Apr. 12 I sent the information to Abbotsford Today exclusively on Apr. 14. The meetings were first announced on Mon Apr. 16 by AMWSC Chair Patricia Ross at the Abbotsford Council meeting. I have never seen anyone from Abbotsford Today at any of the Abbotsford-Mission Water and Sewer Commission meetings or most Abbotsford Council meetings over the past 6 years. If you go to the link just added to the article (justpoliticsinabbotsford) I sent to Abbotsford Today you will see that it not only had dates it also included links to background documents that would ensure that those attending the Public Input meetings re New Water Sources could access detailed reports and make better informed input.
I have been submitting information to Abbotsford Today for some time now and this is not the first time I have advised Mike Archer that he should not use his name as the source of the information and that he should use the submitter’s name. He does in some cases and I do not know why he is not consistent with all submissions. Here is actually what I said to Mike Archer:
Mike;
There you go again taking info I sent to you and claiming it as your own
research. Even though you said you had linked my blog it is not on this
article and my link has links to detailed information to help the public
make informed input
http://justpoliticsinabbotsford.wordpress.com/2012/04/14/abbotsford-and-mission-public-invited-to-give-input-for-new-water-sources/.
If you averse to mentioning my blog pehaps you could put the Water Watch
Mission-Abbotsford link on your post http://www.waterwatchma.ca/ as it has
most of the details.
Lynn Perrin
Hi Lynn,Not claiming it as our own at all Lynn. All of the meetings are in our event calendar and are linked to your website. The information in the post is simply presented – not as ours, yours or anybody’s … just information. If you crave the attention of the public that much I will add your photo, name and website address to the post.
Mike
It is not about craving attention it is about getting relevant information
out to the public so they can prepare for the meetings. This info can be
found at either the justpoliticsinabbotsford or waterwatchma web sites -
neither have my name or photo.
From my academic training information that one has researched is called
“intellectual property” and most of the blogs or web sites I have accessed
follow the practise of citing where / whom their information has come from
if it is not from their own research. Here is an
example:http://www.harperindex.ca/ViewArticle.cfm?Ref=00142 (see how they
refer to the original source of info) Abbotscford Today does not go to
the AMWSC meetings whereas I do and in this case I shared the info with
you well before it was announced at the City Council meeting or was on the
City of Abbotsford web site or in the local print media. I am not asking
you to do anything more than I do. I just did an op-ed for the Footprint
Press in which I cite each of my informaion sources
http://www.footprintpress.ca/2012/04/footprint-press-issue-6-2012/. It is
just the respectful and professional way to proceed.

Editor’s Note:
Thanks so much Lynn.
Three comments:
1) Nowhere was Mike Archer’s name used as the source of the information nor has any information provided been identified as coming from anyone other than the submitter.
2) Not all information provided to Abbotsford Today identifies the submitter since much of what is submitted is neither printable nor useable without substantial editing.
3) Any further comments would require us to sue ourselves so we will refrain.

wow ms perrin, from the point of view of an innocent bystander reading all this, you sure seem to want your name mentioned for something that appeared to have been a courtesy post. I wonder if the editor has a way to put your name with tons of stars and kudos around it so you can be happy.
jeez lady!
