Pets & Animals: Animal Massage and Bodywork Professionals Join Forces

A new organization serving pets and pet owners has formed in BC that brings together two branches of the pet care profession. In an announcement this week the new organization shares its mission and goals.

The announcement says, “Qualified Animal Massage and Bodyworkers have united with the formation of the British Columbia Association of Animal Massage and Bodywork Professionals.

Members will include Professional Animal Massage Practitioners and Therapists, Bodyworkers specializing in modalities such as Reiki and Therapeutic Touch, Associate Professionals and more.

“By enlisting the service of our members, you can rest assured that you are working with a qualified professional.

The organization’s website details the history of the formation of the BCAAMBP and describes some of the values and beliefs behind the organization.

The British Columbia Association of Animal Massage & Bodywork Professionals originated in 2007 by a casual meeting and joining of Animal Massage Practitioners and Therapists in the Lower Mainland area of British Columbia. The group began reaching out to Practitioners and Therapists for both large and small animals, inviting them to join in for support and friendship.

The numbers quickly grew and it became apparent that in order for the profession to take hold and become a recognized and respected field in British Columbia (as it already was in other parts of the world), the group needed to formalize.

Hence, the British Columbia Association of Animal Massage & Bodywork Professionals became a registered, non-profit, incorporated Association in February, 2009.

Members work co-operatively with Professionals from other fields and are held to a required level of education, skill and ethical code of conduct. Working within our scope of practice, Providers do not treat, diagnose or prescribe.
