Abbotsford’s public schools will be keeping the two week Spring break format for next year. At its March 2 regular meeting, the Abbotsford Board of Education formalized the dates for the 2010 break. This comes after parents and the community were invited to provide their feedback on whether schools should return to a one week Spring Break, or stay with the two week model in 2010.
Some 90% of respondents were in favour of maintaining the two week break next year. In all, 373 people, mostly parents, provided feedback. Of those, 336 were in favour of the two week Spring Break.
The Abbotsford Board of Education has approved the two-week break running from Monday, March 1st to Friday, March 12, 2010. Schools will re-open on Monday, March 15, 2010.
All School Districts are required to confirm the school calendar for the following school year by May 31 of the current year. The Ministry of Education determines a standard school calendar for all Districts under Section 5 of the School Calendar Regulation. Individual School Districts are able to add to this, provided instructional time is added during the school year to make up for any extra days off.
