Enrolment
As of September, enrolment in School District No. 34 was approximately 19,000.
This consisted of:
- 31 elementary schools (K-5) with 7,550 students (FTE)
- 8 middle schools (6-8) with 4,350 students (FTE)
- 7 secondary schools with 6,500 students (FTE)
- 1 Virtual School
Demographics
The District represents a broad and multi-cultural community of learners. Approximately 73% of the District’s students primary language spoken in the home is English, followed by 19% Punjabi and 2% Korean. Furthermore, data released by the Ministry of Education in January 2008 reports that 9.5% of the District’s learners are Aboriginal; 9.1% are Special Needs*; 9.9% ESL; 6% French Immersion.
*Includes Sensory Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Behaviour Disabilities and Gifted.
Programs
The District offers a range of education options, programs, services, facilities and a variety of learning opportunities for students including those for students with special needs, French Immersion, career programs at the secondary level, ESL, traditional schools and fine arts options.
